Jealous Over Toys

Thank you for the advise regarding Shrek and Fiona. Using a drag line has helped a lot. I have become more aware of what is going on between the two of them. Shrek is the antagonist. He tries to steal Fiona's toys all the time. With the drag line on I am able to stop the little thief right away. He is learning to be more respectful. Now the problem I have is that he picks up his leash and carries it around. He has figured out that if he has the leash I can't get a hold of him. In spite of this he is still learning to leave Fiona alone. Fiona is relaxing more now that she sees that I am doing something about Shrek. Thanks again for the advise.

Your family, including your dogs, is like a dog pack. The pack has a hierarchy. When you brought Shrek into the family you upset the hierarchy. Fiona and Sreck have to figure out how this new hierarchy is going to work. Because you have a male and a female this process will be easier. I suggest that you put a drag line on each of them. A drag line is a six foot leash that you let them drag around the house. This way you have a way to stop them from squabbling. When Fiona growls at Shrek you can tug on her leash and tell her "no" in a firm voice. You can also tug on Shrek if he is trying to steal toys from Fiona. You are the top dog in your house and so it is your responsibility to stop fights when they arise. Some people would tell you to let them work it out on their own. I am not fond of this method I think it weakens your position as the top dog.

Fiona is six and she is growling at Shrek who is seven mos old. She doesn't growl at him all the time just over the toys. It's as if she doesn't want to share with him at all. What can I do about this?
