Door Dashing

Teach your dog to sit at all doorways and gates to prevent him from dashing through.

I teach all my students how to stop their dogs from door dashing. Door dashing is where the dog runs through open doors and gates without waiting for permission. To teach your dog not to door dash you need to have a six foot leash on the dog. You will then approach the open door and have your dog sit when you get to the door. Next you proceed through the open door and correct your dog with a pop on the collar when he tries to follow you through the door way. You then have your dog wait until you give him a release word like OK to tell him he can now come through the open door. You will repeat this process until your dog automatically sits at doorways with out you telling him to do so. This is also a great command for when you open the door after the doorbell has rang. Teach your dog to sit and stay while you greet your company.
